The profile cylinder lock is a lock that, together with the so-called profile cylinder / locking cylinder, ensures that a door can be locked and unlocked again with a key.

The key needs the correct profile (the right teeth/cuts) so that the pins in the locking cylinder do not block the rotational movement of the key. If the key does not have the correct teeth, the pins block the unlocking attempt, making the profile cylinder lock a very effective means of access control. This is a major reason why the profile cylinder lock has become widely accepted in Germany and can be regarded virtually as the standard lock.

All components of the profile cylinder lock must be very accurately matched to the design of the house or apartment door, so that the door can be securely locked and quickly unlocked again.

Profile Cylinder Lock as a Mortise Lock or with a Lock Case

The profile cylinder lock is usually a so-called mortise lock, which is inserted into a cavity inside the house or apartment door. When the door is closed or locked, the door latch and deadbolt extend into the respective holes provided for them in the strike plate.
