A door chain is very useful when unwanted or uninvited visitors are at your front door. With a door chain, the front door can only be opened a crack. From a security expert’s perspective, a door chain offers a degree of psychological protection – it’s not the most effective measure for preventing break-ins.

There are many different models and variations of door chains available from specialist retailers: lockable and non-lockable door chains. Installing a door chain requires drilling into the door. If this isn’t desired, there are also door chains that can be hung from the inside using the door handle.

Door chains are very valuable for increasing child safety. Small children, in particular, cannot leave the house unnoticed with a door chain.

A door chain is often made of hardened steel. It is often very robust and can only be cut with very good professional tools. However, if a burglar uses great force when forcing open a door, the anchoring tears quite quickly and easily.
