The strike plate (Schließblech) is the part of a door that sits in the door frame or door casing and firmly holds both the door latch and the deadbolt in the frame when the door is closed or locked.

Some people confuse the strike plate with the door fitting. However, the door fitting is attached to the door itself – to protect the locking cylinder and the lock.

In classical deadbolt locks, the strike plate only accommodates the bolt, as there is no door latch in conventional deadbolt locks.

In technical jargon, strike plates for rebated doors are referred to as angled strike plates (Winkelschließbleche) and strike plates for flush doors as flat strike plates (Flachschließbleche).

Particularly high-quality and secure strike plates feature a wall anchoring system. If you want to rely on the highest possible level of burglary protection, you should have strike plates with wall anchors installed on your entrance doors.
