A so-called rod lock runs the entire height of a door. It is particularly well-suited for older doors or double doors, as ornamentation or a special door shape often prevents the use of a crossbar.

Rigid locks are also frequently used on rebated doors. Mounted to the inside of the door leaf, a rod lock expands locking bars at the top and bottom into a lock case. With modern profile cylinders and secure cylinder covers, rod locks can be an extremely useful security measure. Rod locks are available for doors up to four meters high!
