An unusual incident has occurred in a Munich residential area: a 48-year-old man gained unauthorized access to the home of former professional footballer Mehmet Scholl in the early hours of the morning. According to initial findings, the man likely entered the building through an unlocked patio door.
Instead of specifically searching for valuables, the intruder initially spent a considerable amount of time inside the house. According to media reports, he helped himself to food and even used the bathroom. He then made his way to the family’s sleeping area.
The situation escalated when the man entered a bedroom where the homeowner’s adult daughter was sleeping with her partner. The couple noticed the stranger and confronted him. Shortly thereafter, Scholl also intervened. Together, those present managed to detain the man until the police arrived.
The suspect sustained a minor injury during the altercation. Responding officers arrested him at the scene. According to various media reports, the man was already known to have a history of exhibiting signs of mental instability. He was subsequently taken to a psychiatric facility. Investigations into the exact sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Possible lesson to be learned from the incident: Even in quiet residential areas, open or incompletely secured access points can provide an opportunity for unauthorized entry. Patio doors and side entrances, in particular, are often overlooked when securing a house for the night.
