Bicycle theft is an everyday problem, especially in large cities. In Munich as well, we can confirm this from experience. Unfortunately, it is only rarely possible to catch the thieves. However, there are several ways to properly lock a bicycle and protect it from thieves.

It is important that the bicycle is securely locked to a fixed object so it cannot simply be carried away. Also make sure not only to secure the frame, but also to run the lock through the spokes. It is highly recommended to permanently mark your bicycle and note the stamped frame number! If the bicycle is recovered, the police can then easily identify it as yours.

The bicycle lock: what types of locks are there?

Cable and chain locks: If a strong chain is chosen, these locks are very secure. They are also flexible in use.
U-locks, which can sometimes also be attached to the bicycle with a special holder. U-locks are available in different levels of strength and are extremely secure.
Folding locks are very practical and secure.
Frame locks are usually already installed on bicycles as standard. They serve as a basic immobilizer but do not provide high security.
Spiral cable locks are basically the minimum level of security. They are practical, lightweight, and flexible – but not as strong as, for example, U-locks.
