Brief info: Stiglmaierplatz in Munich Maxvorstadt
In the Middle Ages, the area was part of a horse racing track, but during the time of Crown Prince Ludwig I it was redesigned under the direction of Karl von Fischer. In the second half of the 20th century, it was expanded towards the south. Stiglmaierplatz is located near Munich Central Station in the Maxvorstadt district and is named after the sculptor, draughtsman, and medallist Johann Baptist Stiglmaier (1791–1844). This naming was decided in 1845. Previously, the square was called Kronprinzenplatz and Ludwigsplatz. Dachauer Strasse, Brienner Strasse, Seidlstrasse, and Nymphenburger Strasse all meet here. A little to the northeast begins Schleissheimer Strasse. The most prominent building on site is the traditional Löwenbräukeller restaurant on the northwest side, operated by the Schottenhaml family, featuring a large banquet hall and beer garden. Stiglmaierplatz is accessible by subway and tram. Interestingly, in 1883 the first Munich steam tram departed from here to Nymphenburg, which at the time was still outside the city area.
